Dog Travel Insurance
Many people wish to take their dogs when they travel on holiday, whether it’s in the UK or abroad. This is much easier than it ever was before, with a dog travel insurance policy. If you do wish to take your dog with you when travelling on holiday, it is highly recommended that you take out a dog travel insurance policy. A policy will protect you and your dog against any unexpected costs that can arise when you travel.
One Trip Pet Travel Insurance (Monthly Pet Travel Insurance)
One trip or monthly dog travel insurance policy is designed to cover your dog on holiday for a single trip only. The maximum time for this insurance policy type tends to be around 28 days.
Annual Pet Travel Insurance
Annual dog travel insurance should be taken if you plan on taking your pet on more than one trip during a 12 month period. Most policies stipulate that each trip can be for a period of no more than 28 days at a time.
Dog travel insurance policies and products can vary between providers, and most of them usually cover the following costs. As a minimum requirement, your dog insurance policy should cover the following features:
- Veterinary Fees - This will protect your dog in case it becomes ill or injured and requires emergency treatment during your trip.
- Quarantine Costs - As long as you take the necessary steps and your dog is still put in quarantine any costs incurred will be recovered.
- Death - In the unforeseen circumstances that your dog dies during your trip then you will receive a payment equal to the market value of the animal.
- Holiday Cancellation - This covers against the cost of cancelling your holiday because your dog falls ill or gets injured.
- Accommodation - You are protected against additional accommodation costs that arise due to problems with your dog.
- Repatriation - In the unforeseen circumstances that your dog dies during your holiday, your insurance should cover costs to return your dog to the UK.
- Theft / Straying - You are covered against the costs for the retrieval of your missing dog including advertising.
- Replacement Documents - Protection to cover the costs associated with replacing necessary documents that are lost or damaged.
- Public Liability - This will protect you in the event that your dog causes damage to a third party or the property of a third party during a trip.
