Cheap Dog Insurance
There are 3 main types of dog insurance policies. You will find that annual cover is generally the cheapest as the amount that can be claimed per condition is lower and the cover for each condition has a 12 month limit.
Dog owners usually purchase policies that provide the most important benefits as standard and where they offer additional benefits including overseas dog travel cover or holiday cancellation benefits as optional extras. Some dog insurers restrict the maximum amount that can be claimed each year in total so take care to find out what exactly is offered.
You may want to search for the cheapest dog insurance policy but be aware that cheap doesn’t always mean the best for you and your pet. Of course you will want to keep the costs down, but choosing a policy solely for the reason of being ‘cheap’ could actually end up costing you more in the long term. Ensure that the policy you choose does not compromise the cover.
There are many dog insurance products out there and this can make it difficult to choose the most suitable one for you and your dog. They all have exclusions, terms and conditions and discounts - so how do you know which one is going to be the most suitable?
Insurance for your dog can be divided into three types:
1. Annual Cover
2. Per Condition Cover
3. Life Time Cover
Annual Cover is the cheapest in terms of the monthly/annual premium but the trade-off is that it is also the least flexible out of the three options. It restricts cover for an individual condition to a monetary limit for 12 months and so is useful to claim against unexpected illnesses or for ‘one-off’ treatments such as surgery or short-term care.
Your dog will not be covered for that condition once you reach the monetary limit or 12 months from onset of condition. Some insurance providers may also restrict the total amount you can claim in the policy year.
Per condition pet insurance policies are essentially the same but do not place any time limit allowing you to claim for the condition as long as it takes to reach to the monetary limit.
Life Time cover is the most expensive but it does cover your dog for ongoing illnesses year on year which is a huge saving in terms of veterinary treatment.
